Did you know there are two Mount Zions, two holy places, and two Jerusalems? When the Israelites fell into sin and became scattered (600 B.C.), God led a righteous Remnant to other lands where they could dwell safely:
31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:
32 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this. (Isaiah 37)
The Messiah visited them after His resurrection, and their record tells the story:
6 And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them:
7 Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.
8 And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, they saw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them.
9 And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:
10 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world. (3 Nephi 11)
This place where Our Savior came, He will return to first, before showing Himself to those in Jerusalem, for the prophecy says, “the first shall be last”:
42 And the time cometh that he shall manifest himself unto all nations, both unto the Jews and also unto the Gentiles; and after he has manifested himself unto the Jews and also unto the Gentiles, then he shall manifest himself unto the Gentiles and also unto the Jews, and the last shall be first (1 Nephi 13)
This location was known anciently as “Bountiful.” Today, it’s called Tonawanda in western New York, not far from Niagara Falls, and is adjacent to Forest Lawn Cemetery. The 3 Nephites made certain the street layout would point to it, which it does:
This is where the people were baptized at the first coming of Our Lord, after His resurrection.
